On May 30, 2007, California's winegrape growers declared California's independence as a country - One Nation Under Vines. Okay, so it was a joke. But in all seriousness, we did it to highlight the fact that California is a dominant force in the global wine marketplace. Just think: when you go to a wine shop or look at a restaurant wine menu, California is presented side by side with other winegrowing countries - France, Italy, Spain, Australia. So the joke's not so far-fetched is it? Ultimately, we want wine loving consumers to know all there is to know about California wine country. And, as we note in our Declaration of Independence, we eagerly invite them to explore it, too.
